Conservation of a long-distance migratory shorebird: the Lesser Yellowlegs
Our January webinar will be focused on the conservation of a long distance migratory shorebird, the Lesser Yellowlegs. This session will highlight how coordinated, cross regional conservation actions can accelerate recovery for species that depend on connected landscapes across the Americas. The webinar will bring together perspectives from working group coordination, harvest management, and habitat restoration.
The webinar will open with an overview of the Lesser Yellowlegs Working Group, the Species Recovery Wheel, and focal geographies. This introduction will be provided by Kelly Srigley Werner, who will set the context for how collaborative recovery efforts are structured within the Road to Recovery framework. The opening will also highlight how the Recovery Wheel supports alignment across research, management, and implementation.
Following the introduction, Benoit Laliberte will discuss efforts to reduce harvest pressure in the Caribbean and northern South America. Jason Hoeksema will then present on wetland creation and restoration along the Mississippi Flyway and how these actions support migratory connectivity. Together, these talks will illustrate how coordinated actions across the annual cycle can meaningfully contribute to recovery.
